OSARCC secures funding from the Big Lottery Women and Girls Initiative

Oxfordshire Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre (OSARCC) is delighted to have secured funding through the Big Lottery Women and Girls Initiative.

This five-year funding will enable us to extend our specialist sexual violence services to reach younger women and girls across Oxfordshire. This will include support for those who have experienced sexual violence as well as preventative work to stop this violence from occurring.

Our planned project, provisionally named The SEE (Support, Empower, Educate) Project, is ambitious. It will place young women and girls at its heart, including them in all aspects of design, delivery and evaluation; and ensuring that their voices are heard.

The SEE Project will expand OSARCC’s holistic support services – face to face, group-work and helpline including text and email support – to reach younger women and girls, as well as building on our recent pilot work in schools and youth settings which is focussed on sexual violence, healthy relationships and consent. All of OSARCC’s work is under-pinned by a gender-informed approach to violence against women and girls.

Over time, the findings of both the project’s strands – support and prevention - will help shape and inform all of OSARCC’s provision. Alongside this, we will develop an evidence base of effective approaches to work with young people that will inform both local and national policy, with a particular focus on Oxfordshire’s strategy to end violence against women and girls.

Strong partnership working will be key to the success of this work. OSARCC will build on our existing partnerships and we look forward to developing relationships with new partners as well.

We are incredibly excited by the opportunity to develop the SEE Project, and immensely grateful to the Big Lottery both for their investment in our organisation and for their faith in our ability to become a centre of expertise for holistic support, empowerment and education regarding sexual violence.
